Adding some depth to Gluestick
Posted by Colin
Earlier I mentioned that the Gluestick final canidate was delayed due to one last minute addition. Well, I’m happy to announce what we’ve been working on!
Gluestick compositions now operate in a three dimensional context. That is, layers can have depth. You can transform layers now using pitch, yaw, and roll! This handy airplane I found on Wikipedia demonstrates the concept.

Ah, brings back memories of Microsoft Flight Simulator on my Quadra 605.

I’ll never know how they rendered Chicago so realistically.
Anyway, this is typically a feature found in higher end compositors, like Motion, Final Cut, and After Effects. Photoshop has a 3D transform, but it’s pretty icky, and Pixelmator doesn’t have 3D transforms.
Here’s a screenshot of it in action.
Every layer gets it’s own 3D context, so you don’t have to worry about layers intersecting.
I should mention that the lovely wood background is optional. You can change it to some nice black and white tiles, or a solid color.
